Oggi in oltre 8.100 supermercati si terrà la 14a edizione National Food Collection Day organized by the Food Bank Foundation. More than 110,000 volunteers will invite people to donate food a long shelf life which will be distributed to over 8,000 charitable agencies (soup kitchens, community for children, schools of solidarity, reception centers, etc..) Agreement with the Food Bank Network that help 1,500,000 people in need.

Come ha affermato il Ministro Maurizio Sacconi a febbraio 2010, nell´evento di apertura dell´Anno Europeo della Lotta alla Povertà e all'Esclusione Sociale: "La povertà alimentare rappresenta oggi il bisogno più diffuso e urgente, proprio perché tocca un aspetto vitale della condizione umana". Per questo motivo il Ministero del Lavoro e delle Politiche Sociali, nell´ambito delle iniziative celebrative di questo anno, ha individuato nella Giornata Nazionale della Colletta Alimentare uno degli eventi paradigmatici advance and advocate for its high social value.
